About the Event

From his start as a student and then Master at the Bauhaus in Germany, via a short but productive period in England, Marcel Breuer came to define Modernism and Brutalism in the United States. This richly illustrated lecture by the authors and Isokon Gallery trustees Leyla Daybelge and Magnus Englund places Marcel Breuer as a key form giver of the 20th century, creating furniture, houses and major buildings against a backdrop of world in turmoil.


The Breuer talk is 100 images and takes around 60 minutes. The focus is of course the furniture, which is what he’s known for in Europe and what we want to highlight at Knoll, but in reality, Breuer was an architect who also did furniture, and in the US he's known as an architect first and foremost.
